| High-Performance DrayOS 5 Wi-Fi 6 Access Points for Enhanced Network Efficiency |
The DrayTek VigorAP 905 is a high-performance, dual-band 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) wireless access point, designed for high-density environments such as classrooms, conference halls, and other locations with many simultaneous users. It supports up to 256 concurrent clients, delivering fast and reliable connectivity even under heavy usage.
Equipped with 2×3 MU-MIMO and Beamforming technology, the VigorAP 905 offers excellent wireless performance, with a combined throughput of up to 3 Gbps (2400 Mbps on 5 GHz and 600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz).
The built-in Plug-and-Play Mesh technology allows up to eight access points to be wirelessly linked into a Mesh group, extending wireless coverage without complex configuration. Setup is quick and easy using the built-in Quick Start Wizard or the free DrayTek Wireless App.
The Wi-Fi Mesh system also enhances network reliability. Redundancy features ensure that if one AP’s uplink fails, traffic is automatically rerouted through another AP, maintaining continuous service.
The VigorAP 905 is built with a Virtual AP Controller, which intelligently detects whether each AP is connected via wired or wireless uplink and automatically chooses the optimal topology:
- For smaller deployments (fewer than 8 APs), it enables Mesh mode with 1 root AP and up to 7 nodes.
- For larger deployments (up to 20 APs including the root), it switches to AP Management mode, offering greater control, scalability, and centralized management.

| What’s New in DrayOS 5-based VigorAP 905 |
Notification Service
DrayOS 5 adds push notification support for the VigorAP 905 and other DrayOS 5 Access Points. Using the DrayTek Wireless App (version 1.3.3 or later), network administrators can receive real-time alerts for key events such as client disconnections, mesh node offline status, and login attempts. This ensures admins stay informed and can respond quickly to wireless network issues directly from their mobile devices. |
 |
|
MAC Filtering for Access Control
To enhance network security, DrayOS 5 introduces MAC Filtering for Access Control. This feature lets administrators specify which devices can connect to the network by assigning their MAC addresses to a profile.
Configuration steps:
- Navigate to Security > MAC Filtering Profile to create a new profile.
- Add device names and their corresponding MAC addresses.
- Apply the MAC Filtering profile to the desired SSID under Configuration > Wireless LAN to enforce access control.

|
Streamlined Wireless LAN Configuration
DrayOS 5 simplifies the setup of wireless network parameters by consolidating all options into a single, unified page. Unlike DrayOS 4, where SSID, Radio Settings, Roaming, and other configurations were spread across multiple pages, administrators can now manage everything directly under Configuration >> Wireless LAN. This streamlined approach makes setup and ongoing management faster and more efficient.
|
 |
 |
Comprehensive Client Monitoring
DrayOS 5 makes monitoring wireless clients more efficient by consolidating all client information into a single view. Previously, details were separated between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz settings. Now, administrators can access a complete overview of client connections and usage from one page under Monitoring >> Clients List, simplifying client management and tracking in a unified location.

| AX3000 (Wi-Fi 6) Capacity |
| OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) |
| With OFDMA modulation scheme, each channel is made up of 256 subcarriers spaced 78.125 kHz apart, compared to 64 subcarriers spaced 312.5 kHz apart with OFDM. With up to 4 times data efficiency and more advanced channel sharing technologies, a device can be allotted bandwidth based on the assessed needs for the highest airtime efficiency possible. For example, users on streaming or VoIP services can be allocated more bandwidth and time, while services such as email or website browsing can be assigned less bandwidth that is still sufficient for the tasks, thus improving user experience in high-density environments. |

 |
|
| MU-MIMO functions by transmitting data to multiple users simultaneously, much like several delivery trucks operating in parallel. This improves overall network capacity and boosts individual user speeds. |
 |
| BSS Colouring is a technique that enhances the coexistence of overlapping Basic Service Sets (BSS) and enables more efficient spatial reuse within the same channel. In simple terms, it helps reduce co-channel interference—a common issue in legacy Wi-Fi networks—by allowing devices to better distinguish between their own network and nearby networks operating on the same frequency |

|
| TWT (Target wake time) Devices negotiate with the AP for a Target Wake Time (TWT), or joint a TWT broadcast session, and transmit data only when the TWT arrives, thereby reducing power consumption and increase network efficiency. |

|
WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3) enhances the security of Wi-Fi networks by addressing vulnerabilities in previous standards (WEP, WPA and WPS2) and introduces new features including stronger authentication, better encryption, and improved protection against attacks such as brute-force password guessing and man-in-the-middle exploits. DrayTek’s WiFi 6 encryption:- WEP (64 / 128-bit)
- WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 / OWE
The comparison table below compares the security design of Wi-Fi security protocols WEP, WPA, WPA2 and WPA3. | WEP | WPA | WPA2 | WPA3 | | Encryption | RC4 | TKIP / RC4 | AES-CCMP | AES-CCMP/ AES-GCMP | | Session Key | 64/128 bit | 128 bit | 128 bit | 128/256 bit | | Authentication | Open system, shared key | Pre-shared key | Pre-shared key | AES-CCMP/ AES-GCMP | | Level of Security | Very low | low | Moderate | High |
|
| Virtual AP Controller |
| Intelligent Auto-Configuration |
| The VigorAP 905 automatically detects whether it is connected via wired or wireless uplink and selects the optimal network topology. For smaller wireless setups with fewer than eight APs, it seamlessly enables Mesh mode (one root AP with up to seven node APs). In larger wired deployments with more than 20 APs, it switches to AP Management mode for greater control and scalability. |
 |
| Wireless Device Monitoring |
| The intuitive monitoring panel offers a complete overview of your network, making it easy to track devices, mesh status, and nearby APs at a glance. It provides detailed insights such as WLAN clients, MAC and IP addresses, connection status, SSIDs per radio, the number of connected clients, and firmware versions, all from a single page. Even offline APs are clearly highlighted, simplifying network management and optimisation. |
| Zero Touch Deployment |
| When a Node AP is auto-detected and added to the management group, the Root AP automatically pushes all necessary configurations to it, eliminating manual setup and streamlining deployment. |
